Sunday opening is proving to be a winner with many visitors calling in
I am adding the next piece of information as I believe it is pertinent to each and everyone of us, the idea behind CC has always been of a cooperative nature and as we observe the so called crisis that has eventuated from greed not need the more power and credence given to cooperation rather than competition the better
“We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now. ”Martin Luther King Jr
The General Assembly that launches the International Year of Co-operatives between 14-18 November in Cancun, Mexico. It is sponsored by the International Co-operatives Alliance and the theme of the conference is “Co-operative Enterprises Build a Better World”.
The International Year of Co-operatives, or IYC, is celebrating “a different way of doing business, one focused on human need not human greed, where the members (who own and govern the business) collectively enjoy the benefits instead of all profits going just to shareholders.” In the words of ICA President, Dame Pauline Green, “I can think of no better place for the ICA to launch the International Year of Co-operatives than in Mexico. The co-operative movement in Mexico, as around the world, is reviving as people see it offers a safer, better, and more sustainable choice to the traditional capitalist models now under scrutiny as a result of the financial crisis.”
As we look around the world and see crystallised patterns of thought and behaviour, and indeed, the whole established order breaking up before our eyes, it is vital not to become sucked into the general climate of panic and despondency that understandably accompanies such processes. Instead, a positive emphasis must be placed upon the opportunity to build anew and on more principled foundations.
Wishing you all a suitably spooky halloween
