Passing on the info......Creative sector survey and lots more

I am writing to draw your attention to important research into the creative sector in the South of Scotland being undertaken by EKOS Economic and Social research on behalf of Scottish Borders Council and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
This is the first such study to be undertaken in the region for many years, and the findings will be a direct input to the development of future services to support the growth of the creative sector in the South of Scotland.
The purpose of the research is to:
·       update existing contact databases and intelligence about the creative individuals, businesses and organisations in the sector
·       determine the economic value of the sector and understand the sector’s dynamics
·       understand the sector’s impacts on the South of Scotland
You have been identified as a creative practitioner /business/ organisation/ within the South of Scotland via a database held by one of the two main study partners (the Councils). We are therefore contacting you to ask you to participate in a short (15 minute) telephone interview in order to:
·       update some basic information about you/ your organisation
·       gather your views on the current and future prospects for your work and for the creative sector as a whole
·       gain insight into the kinds of support that the creative sector in the South of Scotland needs to help support its growth
All views and comments will be treated in the strictest confidence and will be reported to the clients in aggregate form only such that no comments or views can be attributed to individuals or organisations.
However, we would like to include some basic information within a database for the creative sector in the South of Scotland. This would include:
·       contact details
·       nature of your main business activity
·       business scale (employment, turnover)
·       market focus
The purpose of this database is to allow each of the Councils to strengthen and improve communication with creative individuals and businesses throughout the region, and also to develop a better understanding of the importance of the sector to the local economy.
If you prefer not to be included in the database then we will of course keep all information strictly confidential.
We very much hope that you will be able to contribute to this important work, and a member of the research team will be in touch in due course to arrange a suitable time for the interview. In the meantime, if you have any queries please contact Sara McGonigle of EKOS on 0141 353 1994 or at sara.mcgonigle@ekos.co.uk.
Thank you in advance for your support.

  WASPS KIRKCUDBRIGHT OPEN STUDIOS WEEKEND
·

Press Release

Release Date: 5 December 2011
Our Ref:

Photographic Opportunity: Yes

TOLBOOTH ART CENTRE, kirkcudbright

From Our Own Collection”

3 December – 28 January

The annual exhibition of paintings from the Stewartry Museum fine art collection has just opened in the Tolbooth Art Centre in Kirkcudbright. The Museum holds an ever expanding collection of works, mainly by past and present artists associated with Kirkcudbright and the Stewartry, and this exhibition provides an opportunity to present new acquisitions made over the course of the year, as well as display works held in store for much of the year.

This year’s selection of 27 works includes four paintings from a large bequest made by the late William Brown Kirkpatrick OBE, comprising landscapes by three ‘Glasgow Boys’ - Alexander Mann, D Y Cameron and James Paterson, together with a pastel view of Venice by the Kirkcudbright artist – Lena Alexander. The display of these four works is a prelude to Kirkcudbright 2000’s next exhibition in July and August in Kirkcudbright Town Hall, where the Kirkpatrick collection will comprise the core of the exhibition. Two works by John Faed (1818-1902) in the Tolbooth exhibition were also bequeathed this year by the late Leslie Rutherford. One is a pencil sketch portrait of John Faed’s sister, Susan, and the other a preliminary drawing for the large oil painting ‘The Statute Fair – Hiring’ which is in the fine art collection of Wolverhampton Art Gallery and Museum.

The reminder of the paintings are drawn from the Museum’s existing collections, but have not been displayed for at least two years. The majority are oil and watercolour landscapes of different locations in Galloway by Thomas Bromley Blacklock, Helen S Thompson, David Sassoon, E A Taylor, John Copland, W M Johnston, R Macdonald Scott, Tim Jeffs, Mary Armour, Anne Dallas, John Maxwell, G P H Watson, Wendy Wood, Max Marschner (print) and Jeremy Carlisle. Portraits by Thomas Faed and Robert Sivell, a still life by Kate Nicholl and a ‘batik’ textile panel by Jessie M King, complete the exhibition.

The exhibition runs until 28 January in the Tolbooth Art Centre, Kirkcudbright. Opening times are Monday- Saturday 11.00am – 4.00pm., but please note that the Tolbooth will be closed on 26 and 27 December and the 2 and 3 January. Admission is free.
